About Services and Fees

Most Anesthesiologists are in private practice and utilize “fee for service” billing for professional services. Factors determining cost include the type and complexity of the surgery, duration of anesthesia, patient’s physical status/ risk factor and additional special monitoring devices. If you have any questions about your bill or need assistance with your insurance, feel free to contact our office.

Insurance Reimbursement

Carolina Anesthesiology, P. A. realizes that changes in the insurance industry can be complicated and confusing. We want you to know that we’re here to help you.

Please contact our office if you are covered by any type of health insurance so we can file a claim on your behalf to your insurance carrier. It is important for you to remember that your insurance policy is an agreement between you and the insurance company. You will be responsible for all charges not reimbursed by insurance. Not all carriers require anesthesia service to be reported in the same way so it is imperative that we are given accurate information.

The charges for the Anesthesiologist (MD) and the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) are combined as one anesthesia charge. However, some insurance carriers, such as Medicare, Medicaid, and Blue Cross Blue Shield, require these charges to be billed separately. You will receive an initial bill showing your charges as they were submitted to your insurance carrier. We will allow time to receive payment from your insurance company, which usually takes between 30 and 60 days. If we have not received payment after 60 days, we will begin billing you for the full balance.

Your surgeon may notify us when your surgery is scheduled. When we are given this information in advance, we will mail you an estimate of the expected anesthesia charge. Many insurance companies have specific guidelines that can affect reimbursement to your medical service providers. It is your responsibility to notify us if your surgery or procedure requires pre-authorization or special provisions. We will be happy to assist you to fulfill any “pre-service” requirement.

Please call our office to obtain participating contract information or if you have any questions regarding your insurance coverage.
